As you may have already heard, Inaburra Junior School is participating in Operation Christmas Child Appeal this year. This is an opportunity for students to assist other children in the world who are less fortunate then themselves.
The students are very excited about this and are eager to get stated. A note is available on the Parent Portal with further information.
Each student will receive a note detailing one type of item that they have been asked to contribute. This may be something to wear, something to play with, or something to love, just to name a few.
As students bring in these item to school, each class with be filling shoe sized boxes which can then be distributed to other children in countries around the world.
Please include a $2 donation with your item as the cost of sending each box is $9 and a donation of $2 per child will cover this.
Families may also wish to complete an entire box themselves and we are able to supply you with the box and necessary paperwork. Please let your class teacher know if you wish to have a box sent home.
All items need to be brought to school before the end of the term.
Thank you in advance for your participation and generosity.

Working Hard

Year 1 has been working very hard on their Transport Systems unit this term. We have even used this topic to inspire our art and craft activities. Here are just some of the amazing examples of what the students have created.
We have made a boat scene by ripping paper to create the effect of waves. Our Hot Air balloons use a 3D effect to look like they are floating in the air. We used printing with small pieces of cardboard to make our train tracks and we painted onto glad wrap and pressed paper on top of it to make a print of a type of road transport.
Year 1 has been very creative.

The Land of a Thousand Rainbows - Entry Event

This morning Stage 1 was introduced via video link to the Honourable Mayor of the Land of a Thousand Rainbows - Mayor Dimplewink. He presented to us a problem and asked if we were able to help solve it.

The Problem: The Land of a Thousand Rainbows is a vast and beautiful land; however, it is a land without transport systems. Recently the Mayor travelled to be a guest of the Mayor of Sydney City. He discovered that Sydney has an amazing array of ways to get around and desired to bring back these ideas to create an environmentally sustainable transport system for his island.

Mission: Students are to create in teams a model using maker methodologies (boxes, paper, lego ect) or a design using Minecraft. Students will have four weeks to complete this to be completed before a gallery walk and team presentation to the Mayor and parents.

Assembly Performance

Just a reminder that tomorrow Year 1 will be performing at the K-6 assembly in the PAC at 11:10am.
Everyone is welcome!
Dear Parents of 1L,
It was great to have a chance to reconnect with those I already know and meet so many new faces over the last two nights at parent/teacher interviews.

As discussed with some of you, I am very keen to have parent help in the classroom this term. The following are times when I could most use a helping pair of hands with our activities.
Tuesday – 8:40 – 9:10am; 1:30 – 20:15pm
Wednesday – 8:40 – 9:10am
Thursday - 9:10 – 9:50am
Friday - 9:50 – 10:30am

If you are interested in helping at any of these times please let me know either via email or communication book and I will be in touch as soon as possible.

Please be aware we are unable to accept your help in the classroom if you have not completed the Parent Helper Workshop.

Koko the Koala and Kev the Kiwi

Our Stage 1 students were very excited today with the introduction of our transport unit. In this
they were introduced to two new friends Koko the Koala and Kev the Kiwi. They are part of the PLC
school's
 travelling buddies project.

They have been globe trotting and arrived today from the Faraday School in London. Over the
next week students in Stage 1 will be conducting a lot of activities that look at the journey these two
have been on and explore where they will be heading next. We were also blessed with a copy of
Charlie and Lola's: We Completely Must go to London.

Thank You Mrs Ramage and her class in London.

Spelling Homework Term 3

You may have noticed that spelling homework has changed this term.

Students will now practice 16 words.  A pre-test of a 'core' list will be performed on a Monday. Words that students spell incorrectly in this pre-test will be the basis of the words they must practise. In order to make up any additional words in order to practise a total of 16 words students will then pick words of their choice from the extension list. Students will then have their own personalised spelling list to practise for the week according to their needs.

Some weeks students will be given time in class to write out their new list and on other occasions this is to be done at home. The yellow booklet outlines the sound focus and correlating spelling words for each week of term 3 and can be kept at home on in your yellow folder.

Homework will still include set Mathletics tasks and home reading.

Thursday 16 July 2015

Term 3 Homework

Homework will commence next week.

As it is Book Week next week our talking and listening topic will be

Tell us about your favourite book or book character and why

A term list of topics will sent home with the homework on Monday.

1L has had a great start to Term 3. They have settled back into the routine of school with ease and have adapted to having a new teacher with little hesitation.
I am really excited for what the rest of the term will hold.

All smiles for the first week of Term 3.

Monday 13 July 2015

Save the date

Next week, Friday 24th July, Year 1 will be performing at the K-6 assembly.
We would love to see you there!
Assembly commences at 11am in the PAC.

Monsters in English

Year One have been reading books about monsters in English. We have learned to describe different monster's physical characteristics and personality traits. A few weeks ago we read The Gruffalo and used drama to create still images from the story. Can you guess who is the Gruffalo and who is the Mouse? It's not as obvious as you might think...

This week we read Monster Chef and retold the story as a comic strip.

Friday 5th June

Tomorrow 5th June is the Year 3 Cake Day. The cost of cakes will be 50c each.
Violin lessons will not be taking place this Friday so please do not send the student's instruments to school.

Tuesday 2 June 2015

Mufti Thursday

Wrist band update

If you have read the post below, we have since made some changes.

Wrist bands were collected from the students and will be redistributed on Wednesday morning before the carnival.

Athletics Carnival

The annual Athletics carnival is on this Wednesday 27th May.

Today students in Kindergarten and Year 1 were given a coloured wristband to represent their House.  This is a special band to wear at sporting events during the year (so keep it in a safe place between events!). Feel free to write your child's name on the wrist band.

Students are asked to wear their wristband at the Athletics Carnival on Wednesday and wear clothes in their House colour so that everyone will know what House they are in and so they can win points for their House.

We look forward to seeing you at the Athletics Carnival as we participate in some novelty events!
