Swimming Term 4!

Swimming Term 4!

Dear Parents,

Just a quick note about swimming for this term. With regard to footwear, we are encouraging the children to wear crocs (or similar), sandals with a strap around the back or swim shoes. Please, no thongs.  If your child does not own anything like these, they can wear the joggers to and from the pool.

Thank you,
Year 1 teachers.

Book Week Character Parade

Week 5 Learning

In Science we did experiments to help us learn about air and gravity. We learnt that air pushes up while gravity pulls down. We discovered that a crumpled piece of paper will fall to the ground faster than a flat piece of paper because the crumpled paper had a smaller area for the air to push up.

In HIGE we worked in teams to label continents, oceans, the equator and the climate zones on a world map.

Week 5 Reminders

Father's Day Stall and Breakfast
Don't forget the Father's Day Stall is on this Wednesday 23 August. Bring your money to purchase a gift for Dad, Grandad or a special friend.
The Father's Day Breakfast is also on the same day commencing at 7:30am and concluding at 8:25am.

Book Week Character Parade
This Friday 25 August is dress as your favourite book character day. Students can wear their costumes all day. Please send a jumper/jacket for cool weather and a hat for recess and lunch. Parents are invited to attend the Book Week Character Parade Assembly at 11:45am.

Water Play!

In Science we pushed different balls and bottles under the water. We learnt that water pushes up while gravity pulls down. It was a lot of fun and we got a little bit wet!!

Measuring Area

We learnt that area is the space inside a shape.
This is us measuring the area of the desk using different materials. We learnt that when we measure we need to make sure that we don't leave any gaps and we can't overlap.

We also learnt that you need to refer to the unit of measurement when you record the area.

This term in science we are going on a Schoolyard Safari! We have been investigating the small animals that we can find in the school environment. Last week we looked at earthworms and this week we have spent some time investigating snails! We talked about how they move, where they can be found, their protection and what they eat.
