Science

This term we have been studying how things grow and change. We have moved from looking at Bombyx Mori (Silk Moth) to looking at plants. As a part of this we would like the students to bring in any seeds they have/find at home, either from the garden or from what they eat, so that we can compare and contrast them and try to predict what type of plant they may grow into.

It would be appreciated if any seeds brought to school could be in a clear zip lock bag. Thank you.

Homework

Dear Parents,

Due to the long weekend over Easter the students will have two weeks to complete their current homework. It would not be able to be collected on Friday or spelling words tested on the Monday so we have decided to take two weeks to ensure that the spelling words can be learnt and tested fairly.

News days and topics will still remain the same and if your child misses their usual news day due to the long weekend, we will ensue they have a chance to share with their classmates on another day during the week.

Maths Groups

Maths Groups is a favourite activity for many of our Year 1 students. This week we have been focusing on subtraction so our activities were all involving take away from either ten or twenty. Here are some photos which show some of the fun we have been having.

Dr Seuss

Check out some of our artworks inspired by characters from the Dr Seuss books we have been reading.

Learning in Year 1

We have been very excited to watch our Silkworms grow over the last few weeks. Year 1 has learnt the Scientific name for Silkworms - Bombyx Mori and we have learnt about their life cycle. We have watched them change from eggs to larva (caterpillars) and now some of them are beginning to pupate (cocoon). It is very exciting to come into the class each morning and discover what new changes have happened overnight.
Year 1 got to hold and touch the larva this week and were fascinated by the legs and pro-legs (false legs) on the insects. They also tickled our hands when they were moving on us.
Here are some photos of our silkworms and some of the work we have been doing as part of our study in Science and life cycles so far this term.
