Year One had a surprise this afternoon when Miss Everist and Mrs Harris decorated the Christmas tree. Their names were on the baubles!!!

Olden Days School
Stage One stepped back in time today to experience what it was like to be school student in the past.
We began our lessons in a room which had blackboards and all the desks were in rows. Our teachers checked our fingernails and behind our ears for cleanliness. We had to sit up very straight and keep our hands folded on the desk. No one was allowed to speak.
Mrs Harris told us that left-handed children must write with their right-hand or otherwise they were punished. We all tried writing with the hand we don't normally write with to see what it was like for left-handed students in the past. Children used to get hit on the hand with a ruler or stick if they held their pencil incorrectly.
Headmaster Coote visited and we all had to stand to greet him. He made us chant arithmetic sums 1+1=2, 2+2=4 and so on. Headmaster Coote told us about when he went to school. He was very scary!
Mrs Davis gave us a reader. It was simple and boring. We had to read it altogether. We like the books we read in our classroom today much better.
After our lessons we were allowed to play. Miss Everist and Miss Plummer showed us some olden days games. Year Two played with inside games such as Pick-Up Sticks, Jumbling Blocks, Dominoes and Snakes and Ladders. Year One played outside with quoits, hoops, hopscotch, elastics and skipping ropes. It was a lot of fun. Next Monday, we will swap and Year One will play inside games while Year Two play outside.

On Monday 28 November Years 1 and 2 are going to travel back in time to see what it was like in an olden days classroom.

Swimming Term 4!
Dear Parents,
Just a quick note about swimming for this term. With regard to footwear, we are encouraging the children to wear crocs (or similar), sandals with a strap around the back or swim shoes. Please, no thongs. If your child does not own anything like these, they can wear the joggers to and from the pool.

Homework and Public Speaking!
Dear Year 1 Parents,
For week 1, students will be doing their homework in a 'mini' booklet. Next week they will receive the regular Home Work booklets.
There will be a note placed on the Parent Portal tonight regarding the Public Speaking competition. There will be no Speaking and Listening presentations in class during weeks 1 and 2. Rather the children will have this time to prepare their Public Speaking speech at home on the topic, 'Something That Matters'.
We hope your holidays were a relaxing and energising time!

Cake Day Fundraiser Reminder
Year 1 Cake Day this Friday 9 September.
Please provide a small quantity of either
cakes, muffins, biscuits or healthy snacks. Ideas for snacks might include popcorn, fruit in jelly,
cheese & biscuit packs or low sugar/ fat muesli bars. This provides variety and healthy choice
alternatives. Please do not include items with nuts of any kind.
Containers and their lids should be clearly marked with your family name so they can be
returned on the same day.
All money we raise from the selling of cakes and healthy snacks will go towards
supporting the Katoke School in Tanzania.

Harold is here!!
Today 1H visited the Life Education Van.
We learnt about eating healthy food and doing exercise. We also got to give Harold some hugs and tickles.
